ONE MORE DAY TO ORDER YOUR FUNDRAISER LUNCH FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 27TH

Dear Friends and Family

In support of CHIRLA and our diverse and vulnerable immigrant community, Just What I Kneaded and SOON will be hosting a fundraiser for CHIRLA on June 27th, 2025. Featuring a curated lunch set with contributions from some of our favorite LA food small businesses, we are pre-selling lunch sets for pick-up on June 27th. 50% of sales are going to CHIRLAand our donation will be matched up to $750 by Masienda. The remaining 50% will go to materials and labor and any remainder will be added to the donation.

The food industry is held up by our immigrants and the flavors that make LA unique are largely informed by the diversity of our city. I don't need to preach to the choir about how terrifying the last few weeks have been for our immigrant community and their families. I think we’re all looking for ways to meaningfully work against this ugly tidal wave. There's a need for legislative change. There’s a need for protests. But I also think there’s a need for smaller community based activism - opportunities to integrate small acts of resistance and aid in everyday life. For myself, for so many of my friends in the food world, we do it by cooking and communing. I've been thinking a lot about Soon Mini days and how what made that system work was that it was based on mutual aid more than any version of consumerism. It was a win-win vision and proved to me that food can be a spark for activism you can practice every day in your home. Activism doesn’t have to look only one way, it doesn’t have to be eventized, it can integrate into something as simple as what you choose to eat and where you put your dollar.

I am so grateful to this food community that came together so generously to make this a very stacked lunch menu. you’re definitely getting value here. Please read below for more details on our contributors and what they are adding to your lunch box.
